Day trade tax calculator (Brazil)
In Brazil, an individual pays 20% on the monthly net gain from day trading and 15% on swing trades, via DARF code 6015 by the last business day of the following month. Losses offset only within the same category, tax withheld at source is credited, and stock sales up to R$ 20,000 in the month are exempt for swing trades.
Enter the month's day trade and swing results, the accumulated losses in each category, total stock sales and the tax withheld. The calculator returns the tax for each category, the loss carried forward and the DARF due.

What this calculator solves
Tax on securities trading in Brazil is monthly, self-assessed by the trader, and the broker does not do the arithmetic. What the broker does is withhold a small fraction at source — the so-called 'dedo-duro' — which serves as a trail for the tax authority and as a credit for you. The DARF is the difference.
The three most expensive mistakes: offsetting a day trade loss against a swing gain (not allowed), applying the R$ 20,000 exemption to day trades (it does not exist) and forgetting that the exemption is on the amount sold, not on the profit.
How the calculation works
Day trade: base = month's result − accumulated day trade loss; tax = 20% of the base, if positive. Whatever remains negative carries forward to the next month, with no expiry.
Swing trades: if the month was stocks only and total sales did not exceed R$ 20,000, the gain is exempt and the accumulated loss is preserved. Otherwise, base = result − accumulated swing loss; tax = 15% of the base. The exemption does not apply to REITs (FII), ETFs or BDRs.
DARF = day trade tax + swing tax − tax withheld (1% on day trade gains, 0.005% on swing sales). Below R$ 10 nothing is paid: it accumulates to the next month.

Full example
A month with 5,000 gain in day trades (50 withheld) and 2,000 in swing trades with 30,000 of stock sales (1.50 withheld), no accumulated loss. Day trade: 20% × 5,000 = 1,000. Swing: sales above 20,000, so 15% × 2,000 = 300. DARF: 1,000 + 300 − 50 − 1.50 = 1,248.50, code 6015, by the last business day of the following month.
If the same month came with a 4,000 accumulated day trade loss, the day trade base would be 1,000, the tax 200 and the DARF 448.50. The day trade loss does not touch the 2,000 from swing trades.
After the calculation
This calculator does not replace an accountant or the official filing — it shows the arithmetic for you to check. TCC keeps each trade's result by category and by month, which is exactly what the annual return's variable income section asks for.
FAQ
Does a day trade loss offset a swing gain?
No. Each category offsets only itself: day trade against day trade, swing against swing. Unused losses carry forward to following months, with no deadline.
Does the R$ 20,000 exemption apply to day trades?
No. It applies only to swing trades in stocks, and it is on the total sold in the month, not on the profit. Sell 20,001 in stocks in the month and the whole swing gain of the month is taxed.
What is the DARF code and deadline?
Code 6015 (net gains on exchange trades, individuals), due on the last business day of the month following the one assessed.
