Pip value calculator

Pip value is how much the position's result changes with each pip of movement. It is the contract size times the pip size times the volume in lots; the result is in the quote currency and is converted to the account currency at the rate between the two. On EURUSD, 1 lot is worth 10 dollars per pip.

Enter the volume in lots, the units per lot, the pip size and what the quote currency is worth in your account currency. The calculator returns the value of one pip for the whole position and per lot, no login.

What this calculator solves

Every risk calculation in forex goes through pip value: a stop in pips only becomes money after this step, and the correct lot comes out of it. The terminal shows the result once the order is open — too late to decide the size.

The common mistake is assuming a pip is always worth 10 per lot. It is 10 in the quote currency of a pair with a 0.0001 pip and a 100,000 contract. On a JPY pair the pip is 0.01 and is worth 1,000 yen per lot; on a dollar account, that is whatever 1,000 yen buys at that moment.

How the calculation works

Pip value in quote currency = units per lot × pip size × lots. With 100,000 units, a 0.0001 pip and 1 lot: 10 units of the quote currency per pip.

Value in account currency = value in quote currency × rate from quote currency to account currency. If the quote currency is already the account's (EURUSD on a dollar account), the rate is 1. If the pair is USDJPY on a dollar account, the rate is 1 ÷ USDJPY.

For an index or metal CFD, replace units per lot with your broker's contract size and pip size with the minimum tick. The formula is the same; what changes is the contract.

Full example

USDJPY at 150.00, dollar account, 0.5 lot. Value in quote currency: 100,000 × 0.01 × 0.5 = 500 yen per pip. Conversion rate: 1 ÷ 150 = 0.006667. Value in account currency: 500 × 0.006667 = 3.33 dollars per pip.

With a 30-pip stop, the position's risk is 30 × 3.33 = 100 dollars. If the pair rises to 160, the same 500 yen are worth 3.13 dollars — pip value in account currency moves with the quote, and the calculation has to be redone for every trade.

After the calculation

With pip value in hand, the position size calculator turns cash risk into the right lot. Inside TCC, that value is computed automatically for every registered account, in its own currency, and the risk of each recorded trade shows up already converted.

FAQ

How much is one pip worth on EURUSD?

With a 100,000 contract and 1 lot, 10 dollars per pip. With 0.1 lot, 1 dollar; with 0.01 lot, 10 cents.

Why does pip value change on JPY pairs?

Because the pip is 0.01 and the quote currency is the yen: 1 lot is worth 1,000 yen per pip, and the dollar value depends on the USDJPY rate at that moment.
