FTMO 2-Step Evaluation rules

In the FTMO 2-Step, the maximum daily loss is 5% and the maximum total loss is 10%, both of the initial capital — and the total floor is static, fixed at the initial balance minus 10%. The target is 10% in the Challenge and 5% in the Verification, with at least 4 trading days in each phase.

This page reads the 2-Step objectives as FTMO publishes them, explains the difference between a static and a trailing floor, and says what the official page does not state.

The objectives in numbers

The 2-Step is FTMO's classic format: two phases with a decreasing target and identical limits. The values below are from the firm's trading objectives page on the verification date; percentages are of the initial simulated capital.

  • Maximum daily loss: 5% of the initial capital.
  • Maximum total loss: 10% of the initial capital, fixed floor (initial capital minus 10%).
  • Profit target: 10% in the FTMO Challenge and 5% in the Verification.
  • Minimum trading days: at least 4 in each phase.
  • Best Day: the objectives page ties that rule to the 1-Step; for the 2-Step, the objectives listed are the four above.
  • Profit split: not stated on the page consulted.

Static floor: the advantage almost nobody uses

In the 2-Step the total loss limit does not follow profit. On a 100,000 account the floor is 90,000 on day one and still 90,000 on the last day, even if the account reached 108,000 along the way. Every unit of accumulated profit becomes extra headroom, and that is what makes the 2-Step more tolerant of a bad streak after a good one.

The comparison with the 1-Step makes the effect clear: there, closing the day at 104,000 raises the floor to 94,000; here, the floor stays at 90,000 and the headroom becomes 14,000. The price of that tolerance is the second phase and the minimum days.

The 4 minimum days and what counts as a day

The requirement of at least 4 trading days per phase exists so the target cannot be hit in a single lucky session. The objective may be reached on day two, but the phase only closes when the fourth day with trading is recorded. For people who trade a few times a week, it is the phase, not the target, that sets the calendar.

TCC's valid days calculator takes the days already traded and the deadline and returns how many sessions are still needed — and the target calculator divides what is left by the days that remain.

How TCC tracks the 2-Step

In TCC's catalog, the FTMO 2-Step is a rule with a static floor on the initial balance, a 5% daily limit and minimum days per phase. The dashboard shows daily and total headroom in currency, the number of days recorded and the target of the current phase — Challenge or Verification — without you having to recompute anything when the phase changes.

If the firm changes any of these figures, the catalog receives a new version, with source and date; open accounts keep being measured by the version that applied when they were opened.

Source and verification date

The figures on this page were read from FTMO's official documentation on 2026-09-12, at https://ftmo.com/en/trading-objectives/. Nothing here comes from a blog, a comparison site or an affiliate.

Prop firm rules change without notice. If the firm's page says something different from this one, the firm wins — and the error can be reported to suporte@tradercommandcenter.com for correction with a new verification date.

FAQ

Is the FTMO 2-Step drawdown static or trailing?

Static: the maximum total loss is 10% of the initial capital and the floor is the initial capital minus 10%, without following profit. That holds for both phases.

What is the target in each 2-Step phase?

10% in the FTMO Challenge and 5% in the Verification, both of the initial capital, according to the objectives page.

Can I pass the Challenge in fewer than 4 days?

No. The objectives page requires at least 4 trading days in each phase; the target can be reached earlier, but the phase only closes on the fourth traded day.

Does the 2-Step have a Best Day rule?

On the objectives page consulted, the Best Day rule appears tied to the 1-Step. For the 2-Step, the objectives listed are daily loss, total loss, target and minimum days. Check the full rulebook before relying on that.
